Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) Programme is one the unique international instrument been placed in the modern supply chain security standards between Customs and Business by the World Customs Organisation (WCO) Since 2005.

Introduction

The AEO Programme seeks to provide tangible benefits in the form of faster Customs clearances and simplified Customs procedure to business entities who offer a high degree of security guarantees in respect of their role in the supply chain. In context to India, in the Year 2011 India launches its AEO Programme prior to which a programme named Accredited Client Programme (ACP) was in place.

However, keeping in view of international developments and in view of the focus of the Government of India on “Ease of Doing Business”, a requirement of having a current and updated system in place, a new comprehensive unified trade facilitation programme has been developed by incorporating the existing ACP Scheme and current AEO programme into a revised AEO Programme.

This new programme provides additional facilities to the legitimate trade who are having strong internal control systems and willingness to comply with the laws administered by the Central Board of Excise and Customs with an objective to provide businesses with internationally recognized quality mark which will indicate their secure role in the international supply chain and that their Customs procedures are efficient and compliant.
